The new HP 33 to 28 Carburetor Restriction Kit is the latest of many items intended to help slow your car without sacrificing consistency. The restrictors work great in many applications, from 12.90 all the way through some 7.90 instances. This kit is very easy to install and is removable if they time comes that you need to pick up more E.T. in the future. To install your 33 to 28 Carburetor Restrictor kit you simply follow these steps: (Steps also included in kit.)

  1. Check your Carburetor for anything that may cause the sleeve issues when sliding in. This could be a burr or scratched surface within the Carburetor. Be sure to clean and smooth all any of these areas before inserting your restrictor. Also, be sure to check the restrictor itself for any imperfection.
  2. Locate the small hole drilled in your restrictor. This is your reference point when installing the sleeve. This hole needs to be placed in the 6 o’clock position when installing your restrictor. (Dead in line with the needle of your Carburetor.)
  3. Lightly slide the restrictor into your Carburetor until it naturally stops. DO NOT APPLY PRESSURE AT THIS POINT. Check to make sure you have the sleeve square within your Carburetor, and that it is sliding in straight. (If you skip this step you may get your sleeve stuck in your Carburetor.)
  4. Once you have checked to make sure your sleeve is square in the Carburetor, apply pressure to the sleeve and it will slide right in. It takes a fair amount of hand pressure to pop the sleeve in, so do not worry if you have to apply a fair amount of pressure.
  5. Once the sleeve is installed take a rubber hammer and lightly tap the sleeve to ensure that it is completely seated against the Carburetor.
  6. After you have installed your sleeve, hold the Carburetor so that you are looking at the Fuel Inlet side of the Carburetor. (Opposite side from where you set the idle speed.) You will notice a small 3/8” square flat spot near the end of the Carburetor you just installed your restrictor into. Drill and tap a 10-32 hole on this flat spot, and install the button head bolt supplied with your restrictor. Apply loc-tite to bolt. This will keep your sleeve from rotating.

Once you have completely installed your restrictor kit, it is time to put your Carburetor back on the car. Be sure to check that your Carburetor is completely in the boot upon re-installing. The addition of the restrictor kit changes the feel when you are pushing the Carburetor back into the boot, so be sure it is completely seated in your boot before running.
